Hobart cruises to victory against Bard

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team completed a Liberty League weekend sweep with a 78-52 win over Bard College in Bristol Gym this afternoon. Sophomore Colin Dougherty scored a game-high 22 points for the Statesmen.

Dougherty was 8-of-11 from the field, 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. Classmate Jamal Lucas added 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers, and a 3-of-4 effort at the line. He also recorded a game-high three steals. First-year Sam Allen contributed 10 points, making both of his field goal attempts and 6-of-7 free throws. He also grabbed a game-high six rebounds.

Senior Harry Johnson led the Raptors (2-16, 0-9) with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. First-year Christopher Rogers chipped in 10 points.

Hobart (11-8, 6-4) trailed 11-5 after six and a half minutes of play, but rattled off 13 consecutive points to take a lead it did not relinquish. Sophomore Armando Dunn hit a jumper near the eight-minute mark, but the Statesmen responded with 10 straight points to inflate its lead to 28-13 with five minutes to go in the half.

Hobart carried a 40-23 lead into halftime. Dougherty led the way at the break with 11 points.

The Statesmen pushed their lead beyond 20 by opening the second half on a 7-1 run and led by at least 20 for the remainder of the contest.

Hobart committed half as many turnovers as Bard did (11-22) and enjoyed a 31-14 edge in points off turnovers. The Statesmen shot 46 percent from the field for the game, 44 percent from beyond the arc, and 79 percent at the line. Coupled with yesterday's 15 3-pointers against Vassar, Hobart canned 26 triples this weekend.

Bard shot 39 percent overall, 29 percent from deep, and 60 percent at the line.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 3, when they host St. Lawrence (16-3, 9-1) at 8 p.m. Bard returns home to host Rensselaer (10-10, 4-7) on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m.
