SCHENECTADY, N.Y.-The William Smith College field hockey team collected its 10th win of the season with a 4-2 victory over Union in a Liberty League contest on Frank Bailey Field this afternoon.

Senior
Hannah Wood paced the Herons (10-3, 2-2) with two goals and an assist for five points. Junior
Fallon Adair scored a goal and added an assist in the victory. Heather Poisson's 15 saves kept the Dutchwomen (6-6, 1-3) in today's game.

Wood opened the scoring 99 seconds into the game. She hit a laser beam of a shot past Poisson on William Smith's first penalty corner of the game. Adair was credited with an assist as the corner's inserter. It was her 11th assist of the season, tying her for ninth on the Herons' single season list.

Union tied the game in the sixth minute. Charlotte Leyland blasted a shot past
Emily King for her fourth goal of the year. The goal came on the Dutchwomen's first penalty corner and shot of the game. Sarah Wilkinson was credited with the assist on the goal.

Sophomore
Kelsey Pierce's fourth goal of the season in the 33rd minute gave William Smith a 2-1 lead headed into the half. She collected a rebound in front and slapped the ball into the goal.

The Herons dominated the first half, outshooting Union 14-1.

Adair doubled William Smith's lead in the 40th minute. Off of a penalty corner, Wood fired a shot that was going wide. Adair put her stick on the ball and redirected it past Poisson. It was Adair's eighth goal of the season.

The Dutchwomen drew within one when Katherine Talacci collected a loose ball in front and deposited it across the goal line. Union had a chance to tie the game one minute later but Alexa Puleio's shot was turned aside by King.

Wood pocketed her 18th goal of the season in the 68th minute to give the Herons a 4-2 lead. She dribbled around a defender and buried the shot into the woodwork at the back of the cage. With five points in today's game, Wood now has 207 for her career. She needs 10 more points to match Assistant Coach Sophie Riskie's school record, 217 points.

King made four saves in 70 minutes of action in the William Smith goal. Poisson stopped 15 of the 28 shots she faced. Marissa Tarashuk added a defensive save for Union.

The Herons finished the game with a 28-7 edge in shots and earned 12 penalty corners to the Dutchwomen's two.

William Smith returns to McCooey Field on Sunday, Oct. 15, when it hosts Ithaca. The Liberty League contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
