Game Recap: Hobart Soccer | | Paige Cooke

#18 Cortland edges Hobart 1-0 in overtime

The Hobart College soccer game had its unbeaten streak end at 10 games at the hands of No. 18 Cortland today, falling 1-0 in overtime to the Red Dragons in a non-league game on Cozzens Field. The Statesmen are now 6-3-4 overall, while Cortland improves to 14-2-0.

It was Hobart's seventh overtime contest this season. The Statesmen are now 1-2-4 in overtime. Ma'Cain Spragling scored the game winner in the 99th minute on a Cortland free kick from dead center about 15 yards outside of the box. It was Spragling's fourth goal this year.

Junior goalie Alec Kaminer made a career-high eight saves in the loss for Hobart. Connor Young stopped four shots in all 98:06 in goal for Cortland, earning the shutout. The Red Dragons finished with a 20-15 advantage in total shots. The Statesmen held a 7-6 edge in corners.

Some of Hobart's best scoring chances came in the first half. With 15:06 left in the first, sophomore Kyle Patrick blasted a shot on goal that was saved by Young, but the rebound bounced out and senior Patrick Schulz just missed connecting on it. With just under two minutes left in the first, sophomore Tristan Cornell Roberts broke through for a one-on-one with the keeper. He drilled his shot on goal, but Young made the save with his left leg.

Cortland almost got on the scoreboard second half. With just under eight minutes left, Cam LaVallee evaded multiple Statesmen defenders for a one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot from about four yards out was denied by Kaminer. With under two minutes left in regulation, Migell Ormsby drilled a hard low rolling shot on goal from the top left corner of the box, but it too was saved by Kaminer.

Hobart is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28, when it hosts Vassar for a Liberty League game at 3 p.m.
