GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 2 William Smith College soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over Lasell in an NCAA tournament first round game played on Cozzens Field this morning. The Herons notched their 15th straight win to improve to 18-1-0 this season.
Lasell finished its season with a 13-6-0 overall record. William Smith has posted three straight shutouts and a total of 14 shutouts this season. The Herons will face No. 24 Swarthmore who defeated Susquehanna 1-0 in double overtime in the other first round game played on Cozzens Field this afternoon. Tomorrow's second round game will begin on Cozzens Field at 1 p.m.

Megan Barwick notched two goals for the Herons. Senior
Evie Manning and first-year Sheila McQuillen each chipped in a goal and an assist.
The Herons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, before adding three more goals in the second. Manning put William Smith up 1-0 just 11:53 into the match. Her 12th goal of the year came off a rebound of her own initial shot that was saved by the Lasers' keeper Sarah LaClair. Just over 11 minutes later, Manning set up McQuillen to make it 2-0. It was McQuillen's second goal this year.
In the 53rd minute, Barwick stretched the Heron lead to 3-0 with a header goal off an assist from senior
Katherine Campbell. Barwick struck again just over 10 minutes later. This time McQuillen blasted a shot off the crossbar. The rebound came to Barwick who sent home her shot for her 11th goal this year. In the 73rd minute, senior
Cailin MacLean scored her second goal of the season. Senior
Kate Spiegel fired a shot on goal that was blocked, but the rebound went to MacLean who sent a low rolling shot into the back of the goal.

Veronica Romines played the opening 72:36 and stopped the only shot she faced. Junior
Kaileen Murray came in for the final 17:24 and also made one save. LaClair finished with five saves in goal for Lasell.
William Smith finished with a 21-3 advantage in shots. Each team recorded three corners.
