Playing its home opener, Brockport charged out of the gate, building a 12-point lead less than six minutes into the game. Lucas made a layup to start the second half scoring and Lescoe followed with a 3-pointer for a 46-43 Hobart lead. A five-point spurt by the home team wiped out the advantage, but Allen hit a 3-pointer near the 15-minute mark to give the Statesmen a 49-48 lead. It was their final lead of the game.
Brockport took the lead for good with eight straight points, including six from Shamseldin. Hobart trimmed its deficit to two three times over the final 12 minutes of the game, but never had a possession with a chance to tie or take the lead.
Dougherty's traditional 3-point play with 1:45 remaining made it an 80-78 game, but the Golden Eagles went 9-of-10 from the line to seal the victory.
Hobart will look to rebound from its first loss, on Friday, Dec. 1 at Union. The Liberty League opener for both teams, a rematch of last season's conference tournament championship game, will start at 8 p.m.
