ROCHESTER, N.Y.-The Hobart College squash team posted a 2-2 overall record at the 2017 Liberty League Championship hosted by the University of Rochester this weekend. The Statesmen defeated Bard 9-0 on Saturday and Vassar 9-0 on Sunday for their two victories.
Hobart (7-13) opened the tournament against the Raptors Saturday afternoon. The Statesmen won all nine matches 3-0. Sophomore

Ben Shapiro posted strong victories at Nos. 1, 4, and 9, respectively. Oakley won 11-5, 11-5, 11-9, Shannon defeated his opponent, 11-0, 11-4, 11-4, and Shapiro claimed an 11-3, 11-2, 11-1. In the second match of the day, Hobart was defeated by seventh-ranked St. Lawrence 8-1. Junior
Fred Maynor earned the Statesmen's lone point with a 10-12, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 win over Ryan Fletcher. The Saints won the other eight matches 3-0.
This morning, Hobart was defeated by fourth-ranked Rochester 9-0. The Yellowjackets won eight of the nine matches 3-0. Junior
Divine Wing was defeated by Micky Bertocchi in four games, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4. This afternoon, the Statesmen cruised past the Brewers with nine 3-0 victories. First-year
Cristian Escalona clinched the overall victory for Hobart, losing just one point as he defeated Isaac Stuart 11-0, 11-1, 11-0 in the No. 8 spot. Maynor lost just four points at No. 9 as he topped Sohaib Nasir, 11-0, 11-1, 11-3. Junior
Terrance Rose closed out the match with an 11-3, 11-1, 11-6 win in the third spot. The win was Rose's team-leading ninth of the season.
St. Lawrence won its fourth-straight Liberty League Championship, posting a 4-0 record on the weekend. Rochester finished second with its lone loss coming to the Saints. Hobart finished third with a 2-2 record. Bard 1-3 and Vassar 0-4 rounded out the field.
The Statesmen will be back in action next Sunday, Feb. 12, when it travels to Clinton, N.Y., to take on Connecticut College and Colgate. Hobart will face the Camels at 12:30 p.m. and the Raiders at 2 p.m.
