NEW YORK, N.Y.- The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by New York University 8-1 in a non-conference match at the Stadium Tennis Center this afternoon. The loss drops the Herons to 5-4 on the season while the Violets, who are ranked 33rd in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings, are now 4-3 on the year.

NYU jumped in front thanks to a 2-1 advantage in doubles play in today's match between regionally ranked opponents. The Violets are 13th in the Oracle/ITA Northeast Regional Rankings while William Smith is ranked 20th. Junior

Allie Perron collected an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Denton and Perron improve to 4-1 in doubles play this year. They defeated Vanessa Scott and Nikki Ong.

The Violets swept singles play with six straight-set victories. Senior
Hannah More kept her match close at No. 1Â with Flyora Shiyanova but was edged 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, March 26, when they travel to take on The College of New Jersey. The Lions are ranked 34th in the Oracle/ITA Regional Rankings.
