GENEVA, N.Y.-The William Smith College tennis team defeated Nazareth 8-1 in a non-conference match at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. With the win, the Herons improve to 8-6 on the year and 4-2 at home.
 
William Smith took a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles play. Senior Hannah More and first-year Allie Perron cruised to an 8-0 win over Allison Friends and Marisa Joyce. At No. 3, junior Alex Cattie and first-year Morgan Hamre edged Jackie Lisak and Maelah Nadeau 8-7. Cattie and Hamre are 3-0 as a doubles team this year.
 
The Herons swept singles play to win their eighth match of the year. More topped Jean McCarthy 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to extend her winning streak to four matches. She is now 11-8 in her senior campaign. Perron collected her team-leading 13th win of the year with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Allison Friends at No. 2. The win was her first of year at No. 2 singles. Fellow first-year Kate Foley improved to 10-8 on the year thanks to a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3. First-year Leland Barclay and Cattie won at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Barclay bested Maelah Nadeau 6-2, 6-3 while Cattie defeated Aliana Burgos 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Alex Greenberg extended her win streak to four matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Elizabeth Karstedt at No. 4.
 
William Smith will be back in action next Wednesday, April 19, when it travels to take on Hamilton in Clinton, N.Y.
