GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team will host No. 2 Syracuse University on Boswell Field on Wednesday, April 5. The annual Kraus-Simmons Trophy game will face off at 7:05 p.m. and will be televised by Spectrum Sports.
In addition to Spectrum's coverage,
WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3 in Geneva) will broadcast the game live. Fans can also watch online with
All-Access Video (New York residents will not be able to watch All-Access due to the agreement with Spectrum) and
live stats.
Since 1986, the Statesmen and Orange have played for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy, which honors National Lacrosse Hall of Fame coaches Babe Kraus of Hobart and Roy Simmons Sr. of Syracuse. The showdown will be the 32nd Kraus-Simmons Trophy game, with the Statesmen prevailing in 1986, 2006, and 2013.
During the game, student-athletes from Hobart and William Smith's other 22 sports will go through the stands accepting donations for Special Olympics. The second annual "Change War" is a friendly competition between the Liberty League and the Empire 8 athletic conference student-athlete advisory committees.
All of the funds raised by the Liberty League and Empire 8 will go directly to Special Olympics. Since 2011, Special Olympics and NCAA Division III schools have been connected through a partnership designed to foster a mutual learning experience between Division III student-athletes and Special Olympics athletes. Through this partnership, Division III student-athletes across the country are encouraged to participate in existing Special Olympics events, create their own events, or otherwise serve to support Special Olympics organization.
Hobart brings a 4-5 record into the game. The Statesmen are 16th in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 11.89 goals per game. Sophomore attackman
Chris Aslanian leads the way with 15 assists and 28 points. First-year attackman
Justin Scott adds a team-high 19 goals and two assists. At the X, sophomore
Matthew Pedicine has won nearly 58 percent of his faceoffs this year. Senior goalie
Jackson Brown has 92 saves, an 11.72 GAA and a .495 save percentage.
Syracuse (7-1) rides a five-game winning streak into town, including an 11-10 win at then No. 1 Notre Dame on Saturday. Senior midfielder Nick Mariano leads the Orange with 19 goals and 30 points. Senior midfielder Sergio Salcido sports a team best 20 assists among his 29 points. Senior Ben Williams shoulders the load at the X, winning 52 percent of his faceoffs. Senior goalie Evan Malloy sports 76 saves, a 9.81 GAA, and a .483 save percentage.
Overall, this will be the 103rd meeting between Hobart and Syracuse. The Orange lead the series 74-26-2.
Tickets are $5 for general admission, $2 for children 12 and under. Parking in the Boswell Field lot (purple on the map below) is reserved for Statesmen Athletic Association members and the media. General fan parking is available on campus in the Odell's South, Barn, and Medbury lots, as well as at the Geneva Centre (orange on the map). Fan parking at nearby businesses or in the Odell's North lot (red on the map) is prohibited and cars may be towed at the owner's expense.
