GENEVA, N.Y.-The William Smith College tennis team defeated Cortland 9-0 in a non-conference match in Bristol Field House this afternoon. The win improves the Herons to 7-5 on the year.
 
William Smith cruised through doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Junior Michaelann Denton and first-year Allie Perron posted an 8-0 victory at No. 2. Denton and Perron are now 7-1 on the year, including a 6-1 record at No. 2. Junior Alex Cattie and first-year Morgan Hamre won 8-6 at No. 3. They are 2-0 as a doubles team this season. The Herons senior duo of Hannah More and Katarina Kostovic edged Mia Hayes and Nikaylah Williams 8-7 (7-3). More and Kostovic, who are the Northeast Region's 15th-ranked Doubles Team, are now a team best 8-2 in doubles play.
 
William Smith won all six singles matches in straight sets. More defeated Hayes 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. More is 9-8 on the year, including a 6-6 mark at the top of the lineup for the Herons. Denton defeated Nikaylah Williams 6-1, 6-3 in the second spot. Perron collected her team leading 12th win of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3. Perron is 6-3 in the third spot of the lineup. First-year Kate Foley also won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Sophomore Alex Greenberg bested Michelle Coffey 6-1, 6-3, while first-year Leland Barclay bested Daria Bystry 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
 
The Herons will be back in action tomorrow morning at the HWS Tennis Center. William Smith will host St. Lawrence in a Liberty League match at 10 a.m.
