The No. 4 William Smith College soccer team downed No. 16 McDaniel 5-0 in its 2017 season opener in the Salisbury Classic at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium in Salisbury, Md. Five different Herons scored in the victory.

Shelia McQuillen led the way in her first collegiate contest with a goal and two assists. Junior
Veronica Romines played the opening 63:28 and did not face a shot. Classmate
Kaileen Murray came in for the final 23:32 and stopped the lone shot she faced.

Evie Manning opened the scoring just 8:42 into the game. First-year
Julia Keogh notched her first collegiate point on the assist. Junior
Megan Barwick made it 2-0 scoring through traffic in front just under eight minutes later. First-year
Mariah Deschino extended the Heron lead to 3-0 off an assist from McQuillen in the 33rd minute. McQuillen notched a goal of her own just under five minutes before the break. Her goal came off an assist from sophomore
Jocelyn Mitiguy.

Phoebe Wade gave the Herons a 5-0 advantage just 4:40 into the second half. McQuillen tallied her second assist of the day on the play.

The Herons held a 27-4 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corners. Sarah McDonald played all 90 minutes in goal for the Green Terror and finished with nine saves.
