Game Recap: William Smith Field Hockey | | Mackenzie Larsen '12

Herons top Cabrini 2-0

The 20th-ranked William Smith College field hockey team defeated Cabrini 2-0 this afternoon at the Drew Fall Festival at Ranger Stadium. With the victory, the Herons finished the tournament 2-0.
 
Junior Fallon Adair led the way for the Herons notching a goal and an assist. First-year Alexandra DeVito made two stops as she recorded her first collegiate shutout.
 
William Smith opened the scoring 93 seconds into the game when Kelsey Pierce fired home her first goal of the season on a penalty corner. The goal was Pierce's first career goal. Adair earned the assist as the inserter. The Herons continued to apply pressure in the first half but could not put the ball past the Cavaliers' goalie again in the opening 35 minutes. Taylor Bookman made six saves.
 
Adair netted a goal of her own in the 37th minute to give William Smith a 2-0 lead. She collected a pass from senior Hannah Wood and fired a low shot past Bookman.
 
DeVito played all 70 minutes in the Heron goal as she improves to 2-0 in her rookie season. Bookman made 12 saves in the losing effort.
 
The Herons carried a majority of the play earning a 28-5 advantage in shots, 14-2 on goal. William Smith also earned 17 penalty corners to Cabrini's five.
 
William Smith will be back in action on Wednesday when it begins an eight-game homestand. The Herons will host Geneseo at 7 p.m. on McCooey Field.
