Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The William Smith College tennis team cruised to an 8-1 win over the College at Brockport in its first dual match of the season this afternoon.
 
The Golden Eagles are now 2-8.
 
The Herons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match at the conclusion of doubles play.  Senior Michaelann Denton and first-year Dina Rigas cruised to an 8-1 win in the top spot. First-years Charlotte Engebrecht and Olivia Engebrecht earned an 8-1 triumph at No. 2. The Engebrecht sisters are now 5-0 on the year. Senior Taylor Ferrari and sophomore Morgan Hamre closed out doubles play with a 9-8 victory.
 
First-year Caitlin Chichora collected her first collegiate victory, sweeping Elizabeth Bean 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Fellow first-year Karen Bulnes notched a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Nina Cabahug in the No. 6 spot. First-year Katelyn Nguyen improved to 2-1 in her rookie campaign with a 6-1, 7-6 win in the No. 3 spot. Junior Alex Greenberg defeated Kelsey Shanahan 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot while sophomore Leland Barclay improved to 5-0 in singles matches on the year with a 7-6, 6-3 victory in the top spot.
 
William Smith will be back in action this weekend, Sept. 22-24, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
