Hobart tops St. Lawrence for 7th straight win

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team shot a season-high 54 percent from the floor with 12 3-pointers in a 91-78 Liberty League win at St. Lawrence University this afternoon. Junior Colin Dougherty scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Statesmen to their seventh straight victory.

Dougherty, one day after scoring his 1,000th career point, remained hot, making 9-of-14 from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers. He raised his career to 1,036, vaulting from 28th to 24th on Hobart's all-time scoring list. Sophomore Tucker Lescoe canned seven 3-pointers for 21 points. Sophomore Sam Allen recorded season-highs with 17 points, a team-high nine rebounds and a game-high four steals. Junior Jamal Lucas chipped in 15 points.

SLU also had four players with 10 or more points led by Pierre Coffy's 21 points. Dom Derigis added 18 points. Ben Crawford posted a double-double on 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Chris Miner had 11 points.

The teams traded the lead back-and-forth in the first 11 minutes of the game, playing to a 23-23 stalemate. Over the next seven minutes, Hobart outscored St. Lawrence 13-4 to build a nine-point lead with less than three minutes remaining in the half. The Saints scored seven of the final 10 points before halftime to cut their deficit to 39-34.

The Statesmen (13-3, 8-1) led for the final 29 minutes of the game, but the Saints (3-13, 1-8) put up a fight to the very end. SLU was within a single possession as late as the six minute mark when Ben Crawford's layup made it a 69-66 game, but Lescoe drilled a 3-pointer at the other end of the floor to push the lead back to six. It was still a five-point game as the game clock ticked by the three minute mark, but Hobart closed the game on a 15-7 run to cement the victory.

The Statesmen will return home to host Ithaca College (12-4, 7-2) on Friday, Jan. 26. Tipoff in Bristol Gym is slated for 8 p.m.
