GENEVA, N.Y.-The Hobart College soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament with a 4-2 win over Vassar on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium this afternoon. The Statesmen will take on regular season champions St. Lawrence on Saturday at 11 a.m.
With the victory Hobart improves to 8-7-2 overall while Vassar ends its season with an overall record of 9-7-0.

The opening 20 minutes saw the teams locked in a tough midfield battle. The Statesmen broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when
Binjo Emmanuel collected his second goal of the season. He intercepted a clearing attempt, dribbled the ball into the right side of the box and launched an arching shot on goal. The ball beat the outstretched hands of Will Marment into the upper left corner of the goal. Hobart made it 2-0 just under two minutes later when
Mouhamed Diouf collected his third goal of the season. He stole the ball away from a Brewer defender took a step and fired the ball into the upper half of the cage.

Vassar got goal back in the 37th minute off a scramble in front of the cage. Eamon Geraghty picked up a loose ball and lobbed a shot over
Alec Kaminer that just trickled across the goal line.

Hobart regained its two goal lead on an
August Martini free kick goal. Following an Austin Lukasik yellow card, Martini fired a worm burner past Marment and into cage. It was his second free kick goal of the season.

Vassar caught the Statesmen celebrating and made it a one goal game 10 seconds later. A Brewer lobbed the restart deep into the offensive half of the field. Mattie Mrlik stole the ball off a Hobart defender dribbled to the left post and slid it past Kaminer. It was Mrlik's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Statesmen put the game out of reach in the 73rd minute when sophomore
Pete Critchlow scored his second goal of the season. Junior
Jack Bizub was credited with an assist on the goal. Bizub collected the ball around midfield, dribbled it for 40 yards down the left wing and centered it into the box for Critchlow who one-timed it into the cage.

Kaminer made four saves in 90 minutes in goal for Hobart. At the opposite end of the pitch, Marment made three saves and his defense kept another shot out of the goal.

The Statesmen finished the game with an 18-10 edge in shots. Both teams had two corner kicks.

The semifinals and finals will be held in Canton, N.Y., at St. Lawrence's Sandy MacCalister Field. The Saints earned the right to host after claiming the Liberty League regular season title.
