Kyle Mangold scored in the ninth minute and the Hobart College soccer team hung on to defeat Clarkson 1-0 in a Liberty League match on Cozzens Field this afternoon. The win was head coach
Shawn Griffin's 200th career victory at Hobart.

Hobart is now 5-4-2 overall on the season and is 4-0-1 in Liberty League play. The loss drops the Golden Knights to 7-3-1 on the year and 1-2-1 in conference.

Mangold scored his second goal of the season on Hobart's second shot of the game. He collected a loose ball 20-yards out, dribbled to his left around a Clarkson defender, and fired a shot from the top of the box into the upper left corner of the goal. It was Mangold's second goal in as many games.

Alec Kaminer made the one-goal lead stand up, stopping three shots as he posted his fifth shutout of the season.

The Golden Knight's best scoring opportunity of the game came in the 38th minute, when Henry Gomez fired a shot on goal from inside the box. His attempt off a corner kick beat Kaminer but was swiped off the line by a Hobart defender. In the 80th minute Gomez had another opportunity from inside the box, but his shot just missed the right post.

Riley McDonald played all 90 minutes in goal for the Golden Knights, making three saves.

Clarkson finished the game with a 14-10 edge in shots. Hobart earned an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 12, when they host Union on Cozzens Field. The Liberty League match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
