ALFRED, N.Y.—The William Smith College swimming and diving team won 11 of 13 events to defeat Alfred University 161-78 this afternoon. Sophomore
Molly Egan won three individual events to pace the Herons.
Egan posted first place points in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 100 free and 500 free. In the 1,000, Egan stopped the clock at 11:21.55, more than 30 seconds ahead of the runner up. In the 100, she clocked in at 57.79 for a two-second victory. Egan wrapped up her day by posting a time of 5:31.49 for an 11-second win.
Senior
Therese Mandracchia and junior
Anna Leffler each won two individual events.
Mandracchia was victorious on the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards. Her 206.48 score on the 1-meter board gave her a 0.8 point win over Alfred's Victoria Cramp. Mandracchia enjoyed a more comfortable margin of victory on the 3-meter board with a score of 223.8.
Leffler prevailed in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.25 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.68.
Mandracchia and Leffler also teamed up with first-year
Katie Mullin and first-year
Emmaline Riester to win the meet's opening 200 medley relay, hitting the wall in 1:54.63. Mullin and Riester were also individual winners, capturing the 200 free and 100 breaststroke, respectively.
Sophomore
Emma Wilber won the 100 butterfly, outtouching first-year
Robin Kirchgessner, with a winning time of 1:02.4.
Alfred (1-3) won the 50 free and 200 free relay. The Herons have won five in a row against the Saxons.
William Smith (2-0) returns to Bristol Pool to host a double-dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 10. The Herons will host SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi at 1 p.m.
