GENEVA, N.Y.—Vassar College shot a season-high 51.9 percent from the floor while Hobart College struggled to find its rhythm, shooting a season-low 35.6 percent. The combination allowed the Brewers to hold on for a 75-72 Liberty League Men's Basketball win in Bristol Gym this afternoon.

Sam Allen made back-to-back 3-pointers to stake Hobart (2-4, 1-1) to an early 6-2 lead, but seven straight points put the Brewers ahead, a lead they did not relinquish. Vassar scored eight straight points during a three-minute span in the middle of the first half to expand its lead to 12.
The Brewers took a 40-31 lead into halftime.
Hobart faced its biggest deficit of the day early in the second half. Seff made a layup for a 44-31 lead just over two minutes in, but the Statesmen battled back. A burst of seven straight points, capped off by a pair of Dougherty free throws, made it a four-point game with almost 13 minutes remaining. Seff gave Vassar breathing room with a 3-pointer.
Down the stretch, the Brewers' lead yo-yoed from as few as four to as many as nine. Seff made a bucket with under a minute to go for a 73-65 lead, but the Statesmen kept the hometown crowd in the gym with one last push. Dougherty made a driving layup to cut the lead to six with about 50 seconds left. After a Vassar turnover, McKinless was fouled while attempting a 3-pointer. He made all three with 33 seconds to go to make it a one-possession game, 73-70. The Brewers threw the ball out of bounds near midcourt on their next possession.
The Statesmen did get off a contested 3-point try from the left wing, but it was off the mark and Hobart had to foul. Senior Mason Dyslin made both free throws to push the lead to five with about 11 seconds left. Dougherty made a layup at the buzzer to complete the scoring.
Hobart is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 4, when the Statesmen host Brockport at 7 p.m. The non-conference game will be the third of eight straight home games for the Statesmen.
