Game Recap: Hobart Basketball | | Ken DeBolt

Fleurizard’s double-double leads Hobart over Brockport

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team earned a 79-75 non-conference win over the College at Brockport in Bristol Gymnasium tonight. Junior forward Edens Fleurizard posted his first double-double of the season on 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, both career-highs.

Fleurizard was 7-of-10 from the floor and made all three of his free throws. Classmate Tucker Lescoe was locked in as well, making 8-of-10 from the field, 6-of-7 from 3-point range and 1-of-2 at the line. He finished the night with a game-high 24 points, a career-high seven rebounds, and a career-high six assists. Seniors Colin Dougherty and Sean McKinless also reached double digits, scoring 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Senior Tyler Collins led the Golden Eagles with 20 points. Junior Justin Summers added 17 points and senior Chris Atkinson contributed 11 points and a team-high four assists. Sophomore Devante Hagins grabbed a team best 10 boards.

Hobart (3-4) found itself in an early hole, trailing by as many as 14. Brockport used a 14-3 run to build a 25-11 advantage. Atkinson led the surge with seven of his nine first half points. The Statesmen fought their way out of the hole scoring 16 straight points while holding Brockport scoreless over four minutes. Dougherty and Fleurizard carried the load with six and five points, respectively, during the run.

The Golden Eagles (3-3) went into the break with a 41-39 lead thanks to an 11-2 run to end the half.

Unlike the first half with its big swings of momentum, the start of the second half was a tight, back-and-forth affair. Neither team led by more than two possessions until Brockport sophomore Xavier Merriweather's short jumper with about seven and half minutes remaining put the visitors in front 69-62. The Golden Eagles still led by seven as the clock approached four minutes to go when sophomore Oskar Coulter drained a 3-pointer.

After two minutes of scoreless basketball, Lescoe made the last of his half dozen triples to make it a 1-point game. On the defensive end, he came up with a steal and Dougherty was fouled on his way to rim to earn a pair of free throws. He sank both and Hobart had a 76-75 lead with 77 seconds left.

Brockport missed two shots that would have given them back the lead before putting McKinless on the line. He made 3-of-4 in the final 20 seconds, closing out the victory.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 8, when they host Carnegie Mellon at 2 p.m.
