PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The William Smith College ice hockey team shutout Chatham 6-0 in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference contest this evening. With the win, the Herons improve to 9-0-0 on the season and 7-0-0 in the UCHC.

Today's win extends William Smith's winning streak to nine games, matching the Herons' longest unbeaten streak to start a season. William Smith was 7-0-2 to start the 2017-18 season. The Herons longest unbeaten streak is 11 games after wrapping up the 2016-17 season with a win and a tie.

Amanda Aalto started in goal for the Herons and made 16 saves as she earned her first collegiate win and shutout. Jillian Rowland and Kirajean Frost finished with a team-high three shots for the Cougars (3-9-0, 1-6-0). Devon Strachan stopped eight of the 14 shots she faced in the opening 25 minutes in goal for Chatham. Theresa Schreck came on in relief and stopped all 24 shots she faced.

Gina Scibetta opened the scoring for William Smith with her seventh goal of the season. She wristed a shot from the left faceoff over Strachan's glove. Senior
Maura Mulligan was credited with an assist on the goal. Kennedy doubled William Smith's lead at the 16:52 mark of the period. She onetimed a shot from the low slot into the back of the net. Roetzer and Luth were credited with assists on the goal.

The Herons broke the game open with four goals in the opening 5:18 of the second period. Mings started the scoring outburst 32 seconds into the period. She picked off a clearing attempt broke and slipped a shot into the back of the net. Her power-play goal was unassisted. Luth pocketed her team-leading 10th goal of the season at the 2:34 mark of the middle period. Kennedy was credited with an assist on the goal. Twenty-six seconds later, Mings notched her second goal of the game. She picked up her own rebound and flipped the puck past Strachan. Junior
Kate Klimaszewski was credited with an assist on Mings' seventh goal of the season. Kennedy wrapped up the scoring at the 5:18 mark of the period with her second goal of the game and seventh goal of the season. Luth and Roetzer notched assists on the goal.

Schreck came on in relief following Kennedy's second goal of the game and did not allow a goal in the final 34:42 of action.

William Smith finished the game with a 38-16 advantage in shots on goal. The Herons were 1-for-2 on the power play while Chatham was 0-for-1.

William Smith and Chatham will be back in action tomorrow afternoon. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
