PITTSBURGH, Pa.-The William Smith College ice hockey team scored a goal in each period as it defeated Chatham 3-0 in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference contest this afternoon. With the win, the Herons improve to 10-0-0 on the season and 8-0-0 in conference play.

Winners of 10 straight, William Smith is off to its best start in program history. The Herons surpassed their longest unbeaten streak to start the season with today's victory. With a win or a tie in their next game, the Herons will match the longest unbeaten streak in program history. William Smith had an 11 game unbeaten streak that bridged the 2016-17, 17-18 seasons. The Herons were 8-0-3 over that stretch.

Eight different players recorded a point in the win for William Smith. Senior
Jordan Roetzer, and sophomores
Lexi Nottke and
Jules Kennedy scored the goals. First-year
Amanda Aalto got her second consecutive start in goal and made 11 saves as she notched her second straight shutout. Theresa Schreck started in goal and made 38 saves for the Cougars (3-10-0, 1-7-0).

Roetzer opened the scoring at the 8:03 mark of the first period with her fourth goal of the season. She collected a pass from first-year
Abbey Luth and wristed a shot past Schreck. William Smith dominated the pace of play from the opening whistle, outshooting the Cougars 13-1 in the first period.

Kennedy's eighth goal of the season gave William Smith a 2-0 lead at the 14:21 mark of the second period. She picked up her own rebound and banked a shot past Schreck. The power-play goal was assisted by sophomore
Julia Mings and junior
Kate Klimaszewski.

Nottke added an insurance goal at 17:33 mark of the third period. Her first goal of the season was a power play goal. Seniors
Egan Sachs-Hecht and
Stephanie Hampton were credited with assists on the goal.

The Herons finished the game with a 41-11 edge in shots on goal. William Smith was 2-for-5 on the power play while Chatham was 0-for-3 with the extra attacker.

The Herons will be back in action Dec. 29-30, when they travel to take on Amherst for a pair of non-conference contests.
