#20 Thoroughbreds sweep Herons

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.-The William smith College tennis team was defeated by 20th ranked Skidmore in Liberty League action inside Bristol Field House this afternoon. The Herons are now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Liberty League play this season.
 
The Thoroughbreds (4-1, 4-0) raced out to a 3-0 lead at the end of doubles play. Senior Michaelann Denton and first-year Dina Rigas put up a strong fight at No. 1 but fell 8-6 to Ada Wiggins and Michelle Fuca. Skidmore won 8-5 at No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3.
 
The Thoroughbreds won all six singles matches in straight sets. Rigas forced a tiebreaker in her first set against Laura Swenson but was edged 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 in the fifth spot. Junior Alex Greenberg was edged 7-5, 6-3 by Jackie Ahn at No. 6.
 
William Smith will return to the courts on March 6 when it hosts Ithaca in Geneva, N.Y.
