WASHINGTON, D.C.—Hobart College junior
Chris Aslanian produced a team-high five points at Georgetown University this afternoon, but the 18th-ranked Hoyas remained undefeated with a 12-9 win on Cooper Field.
Aslanian scored twice and set up three other goals. Among Division I Statesmen, he moved up to eighth in career assists (47), moved into a tie for 14th in career goals, and is one point out of 11th with 109. First-year
Ryan Archer contributed four points on two goals and two assists while sophomore
Eric Holden scored twice and notched an assist. Junior
Matthew Pedicine won 15-of-23 faceoffs and collected a game-high eight ground balls. In goal, sophomore
Sam Lucchesi made nine saves.
Georgetown's Daniel Bucaro and Jake Carraway combined for 13 points. Bucaro had five goals and two assists while Carraway logged three goals and three assists. Goalie Nick Marrocco earned the win with 12 saves.
Senior
Mason Burr gave Hobart (2-4) its only lead of the game, scoring just over three minutes into the contest. Bucaro had a hand in each of the next three goals, scoring the Hoyas' first and setting up the next two. The Statesmen equalized with a pair of goals in the final minute of the first quarter. Holden set up Archer with 60 seconds to go and then scored his first goal with 1 second left.
The teams traded goals early in the second quarter to make it a 4-4 game, but then Georgetown (6-0) broke the game open by scoring six of the next seven goals, spanning the second and third quarters. Carraway and Bucaro hit the back of the net before halftime for a 6-4 lead.
The teams traded goals once again to start the third quarter, but then the Hoyas posted three straight to stretch its advantage to 10-5 with five minutes remaining. Holden capped the third quarter scoring to make it a 10-6 game entering the fourth.
Aslanian had a hand in all three of Hobart's fourth quarter goals. His 12th goal of the season made it an 11-7 game. Aslanian capped his five-point day by assisting on the final two goals of the game, giving him a team-high 11 helpers. Sophomore
Justin Scott scored the first with just under three minutes to go, his team-leading 14th of the year. Archer wrapped up the day's scoring with under two minutes left.
Hobart had a 38-30 advantage in shots and committed two fewer turnovers (14-16). Georgetown had a 39-32 edge in ground balls. The Statesmen were 0-for-1 with the extra man while the Hoyas were 1-for-5.
Hobart begins Northeast Conference play on Saturday, March 17 at Wagner (2-4). Faceoff at Hameline Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
