Hobart rallies past Ducks 5-4

GENEVA, N.Y.-The Hobart College tennis team rallied for a 5-4 non-conference victory over Stevens Institute of Technology inside Bristol Field House this afternoon. The Statesmen are now 4-4 on the season and will begin conference play this week.
 
Entering singles play trailing 2-1, Hobart collected four wins to secure a 5-4 victory over the Ducks. Hobart won in the top four spots in the lineup. First-year Walker Anderson started the comeback for the Statesmen. He defeated David Schulz 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. Anderson is now 8-4 on the season. Junior Jonathan Atwater gave Hobart a 3-2 lead, besting Keegan Morris 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3. Atwater is now 10-4 on the season with a 4-1 record at No. 3. Sophomore Alan Dubrovsky notched his team-leading 12th win of the season thanks to a 6-3, 6-4 victory over William Persson at No. 2. Dubrovsky is 3-2 playing in the second spot of Hobart's lineup. Junior Jonah Salita clinched the overall victory for the Statesmen, playing at No. 1. He dropped the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6) but rallied to defeat Danny Polk 6-0, 6-2. After dropping the tiebreaker in the first set, Salita won the next nine games. With the win, he is now 8-4 on the year with a 2-2 record in the top spot.
 
Stevens notched wins in the bottom two spots of the lineup. Max Kanevsky won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 while Bryan Szayna won 6-0, 6-2.
 
The Ducks (2-7) took a 2-1 lead thanks to a pair of doubles wins. They won 8-3 at No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3. Dubovsky and Salita teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles for Hobart. Salita and Dubrovsky are a team-best 10-5 as a doubles duo this year with a 4-4 record at No. 1.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action on Thursday, March 29, when they host Ithaca to begin Liberty League play. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
