Hobart downs Ithaca in conference opener

GENEVA, N.Y.-The Hobart College tennis team defeated Ithaca 7-2 in Bristol Field House this afternoon. The match was the Liberty League opener for the Statesmen who are now 5-4 on the season.

Hobart has won the last eight matches between the two teams. This afternoon's contest was the first as Liberty League opponents. The Bombers (2-6, 2-2) joined the conference this year.

The Statesmen won two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. Juniors Patrick Gray and David Reinharz defeated Max Prestwich and Liam Spiegel 8-0 at No. 3 to open the match. Gray and Reinharz are 3-1 as a duo this season, playing all four matches in the No. 3 spot. Junior Jonah Salita and sophomore Alan Dubrovsky bested Sam McGrath and Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos 8-2 at No. 1. Salita and Dubrovsky, who were ranked the eighth ranked doubles team in today's ITA Northeast Regional Rankings, are a team best 11-5 as a duo this season, including a 5-4 mark at No. 1 doubles. Ithaca won 8-6 at No. 2.

First-year Walker Anderson extended the Statesmen's lead to 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Prestwich. Anderson has won his last two matches and is 9-4 in his rookie campaign. Dubrovsky collected his team leading 13th win of the season, besting Sam McGrath 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. Dubrovsky is now 4-2 in the second spot of the lineup. Junior Jonathan Atwater extended his winning streak to four matches, besting Colten Lavery 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3. Atwater, who is now 11-4 on the year, clinched the overall victory for the Statesmen. Reinharz gave Hobart a 6-1 lead toping Spiegel 6-1, 6-3. The win was Reinharz's third at Hobart. Sophomore Colin Molloy closed out the match with a 6-3, 3-6 10-6 victory over Sam Fried at No. 6. Molloy is now 2-1 on the season.

Ithaca's Minos Savrakas won at No. 1 6-3, 6-4 for the Bombers' lone singles win.

Hobart will be back in action next weekend, April 7-8, when it hits the road for a pair of Liberty League games. The Statesmen will take on Rensselaer on Saturday at 1 p.m. and St. Lawrence on Sunday at 2 p.m.
