GENEVA, N.Y.- The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by Rochester 7-2 in a non-conference match in Bristol Field House this afternoon.The loss drops the Herons to 5-3 on the year while the Yellowjackets improve to 3-6 on the year.

Rochester took control of the match early, sweeping doubles play. The Yellowjackets won 8-1 at No. 2. Camila Garcia and Sravya Gudipudi defeated senior
Michaelann Denton and
Dina Rigas 8-4 in the top spot. In the closest match, first-years
Charlotte Engebrecht and
Katelyn Nguyen were edged 8-7 (7-2) at No. 3.

Sophomore
Kate Foley picked up her seventh win of the season, knocking off Alex Wolkoff 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3. Foley has won her last four matches and is a team-best 3-1 in the third spot of the lineup. Rochester won the next four matches to secure the overall victory. Sophomore
Leland Barclay closed out the match with her team leading ninth singles win of the season. She battled to a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) over Bianca Dyer at No. 6.Â

Allie Perron and senior
Michaelann Denton forced three sets at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Perron was edged by Camila Garcia 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. Perron has played all five of her matches this spring at No. 1 and is 2-3 on the year. Sravya Gudipudi edged Denton 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Denton is 6-6 in singles matches this year, including a 2-2 mark at No. 2.

William Smith will be back in action next weekend, April 7-8, when it welcomes Cortland and Oneonta to Geneva for a pair of matches. The Herons will take on Cortland on April 7 and Oneonta on April 8.
