Hobart downs NYU 7-2

GENEVA, N.Y.-The Hobart College tennis team defeated New York University 7-2 in a non-conference match in Bristol Field House this afternoon. The win was the Statesmen's first over the Violets since 2012 and second since 2008.
 
Senior Harry Nichols and first-year Walker Anderson opened the match with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Anderson and Nichols are a perfect 3-0 in doubles play this season, playing all three matches in the second spot. Sophomore Alan Dubrovsky and junior Jonah Salita gave Hobart a 2-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 1 over Umberto Setter and Zeb Zheng. Dubrovsky and Salita have won their last four matches and are a team best 15-6 in doubles play this year. NYU (4-6), squeaked out an 8-7 (7-2) win at No. 3.
 
Hobart (9-5) won five of the singles matches to secure the win. Anderson continued his recent string of strong play besting Joshua Piatos 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot. Anderson is 13-5 on the year and 7-3 in his last 10 matches. Dubrovsky gave Hobart a 4-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Umberto Setter in the top spot. Dubrovsky is a team best 17-6 this season with a 5-3 mark in the No. 1 spot. It was his second win over a regionally ranked opponent this season.  Junior Jonathan Atwater clinched the overall victory for the Statesmen, defeating Stefan Rodic 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3. At water has won his last four matches to improve to 15-5 on the season. Nichols grinded out a three set victory at No. 5 to give Hobart a 6-1 lead. Nichols defeated Yanick Parsch 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Nichols is 7-3 on the year. Junior David Reinharz closed out the match with a victory at No. 6.
 
NYU earned a singles point with a three set win at No. 2. Vishal Walia defeated Salita 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4).
 
Hobart will close out the regular season with four straight Liberty League matches. The Statesmen will return to the courts on Tuesday when they travel to Rochester for a 4 p.m. match against the Tigers.
