CANTON, N.Y.-The Hobart College tennis team defeated St. Lawrence 8-1 in a Liberty League match in Sammis Tennis Center today. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 6-5 on the year and 2-1 in Liberty League play.

Hobart took a 2-0 lead in the match thanks to wins in the top two doubles spots. Senior
Harry Nichols and first-year
Walker Anderson opened the match with an 8-3 win at No. 2. It was their first match as a duo this season. Junior
Jonah Salita and sophomore
Alan Dubrovsky grinded out a 9-7 over the Saints' Eric Tecce and Leo Romanetz in the top spot. Dubrovsky and Salita are 12-6 as a duo this season. St. Lawrence (4-9, 0-4) earned a point with an 8-6 win in the third spot.

The Statesmen won four of the six singles matches in straight sets to secure the victory. Junior
Jonathan Atwater extended Hobart's lead to 3-1 knocking off Spencer Whitmire 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. The win was Atwater's 12th of the season. He is a team best 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. Anderson notched the 10th victory of his rookie campaign, besting Andrew Mercorella 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot. Dubrovsky clinched the overall victory for the Statesmen with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1. He is now a team best 15-5 overall this season with a 3-2 record in the top spot. Junior
David Reinharz closed out the match, knocking off Jordan Mamelak 6-2, 6-4.

Salita and Nichols won in tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively. Salita defeated Leo Romanetz 6-2, 4-6, 10-7. It was Salita's 10th win of the season. Nichols knocked off Alec Roslin 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.

Hobart will return to Geneva on Thursday, Apr. 12, when it hosts Rochester. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
