The William Smith College tennis team will compete in the 2018 Liberty League Tournament this weekend, May 4-6, in Ithaca, N.Y. The matches are scheduled to take place at Ithaca's Wheeler Tennis Courts.

The Herons, who are ranked 20th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Women's Northeast Region rankings, finished the regular season with an 11-6 overall record and a 4-3 record in conference play. William Smith earned the No. 4 seed into this weekend's tournament and will play fifth-seeded RIT (10-6, 4-4) in Friday's first round match at 10 a.m.

If Friday's forecast for rain holds, both the men's and women's tournaments will be moved to the indoor courts at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center. If the match is indoors, it is scheduled to begin at noon. In Friday's other first round match, third-seeded St. Lawrence (9-10, 6-2) will take on sixth-seeded Rensselaer (10-5, 3-4) at 2 p.m., 6 p.m. if matches are moved indoors.

Top-seeded Skidmore (13-5, 8-0) and second seeded Vassar (13-5, 7-1) earned first round byes. The winner of the William Smith/RIT match will take on the 18th-ranked Thoroughbreds in the first semifinal on Saturday at 10 a.m., while the winner of the St. Lawrence/RPI match will take on the Brewers at 2 p.m.

The Herons and Tigers last met on Oct. 4, 2017, with William Smith walking away with a 5-4 victory at the Mendon Tennis Center.

Leland Barclay is a William Smith best 14-5 in singles play this year for William Smith. She has played a majority of her matches in the bottom half of the Herons' lineup, posting a 6-4 record in the No. 6 spot. Fellow sophomore
Kate Foley is right behind her with a 10-5 record in singles matches. She is 4-2 in the No. 3 spot, her primary position in the Heron lineup. Foley logged a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 when the teams met back in October. Sophomore
Allie Perron is a team best 5-5 in the No. 1 singles spot since returning to the lineup this spring. Senior
Michaelann Denton and first-year
Dina Rigas lead the team with a 12-8 record in doubles play. They are 10-6 in the No. 1 spot and 3-3 against the Liberty League.

The Tigers are led by Kristen Zablonski's 19 singles wins. She is 19-4 with an 11-3 record in the No. 4 spot of the lineup. Julia Smolowitz is right behind her with a 14-7 record. She is 9-5 at No. 6. Shayna Ginster and Amelia Ying lead RIT with a 15-7 record in doubles play. They are 12-4 at No. 1 with a 6-2 record against Liberty League opponents. They logged the Tigers' lone doubles point when the teams met in October, posting an 8-6 victory.
