The Hobart College rowing team will travel to Lake Quinsigamond to participate in the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Friday, May 11. Last season the Statesmen came away from the event with three gold medals.

Hobart has entered its top three boats, the varsity, second varsity, and third varsity eight, in Friday's racing.

The Statesmen 2V will be on the water first at 9:24 a.m. Hobart has won gold in the second varsity eight in each of the last three years. As the top seed, Hobart will row in lane one against Marist, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology and Skidmore. The first two finishers from the heat will advance to the grand final at 3:32 p.m. The remainder of the boats will progress to the petite final at 3:20 p.m.

Last year's gold medal winners, the 1V will be on the water at 10:48 a.m. in the first heat of the varsity eight event. Rowing out of Lane 1, Hobart will compete against the Engineers, Hamilton, Colby and Trinity. The top two finishers from each heat will progress to the grand final at 4:56 pm. The third and fourth place finishers will compete in the petite final at 4:44 p.m. The last boat across the line will compete in the third level final at 4:08 p.m. Hobart is the top seeded crew in the race.

With only seven entries, the 3V will be a finals only race. Racing out of Lane 1, the Statesmen look to grab their second straight gold medal in the event. The race is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. against Boston College, Tufts, Williams, WPI, the Red Foxes, and Wesleyan.

Since 2013, Hobart has collected 15 medals at the NIRC regatta, six gold, six silver, and three bronze. The Statesmen have captured a gold medal in each of the past four years (the V8 won in 2014 and 2017, the 2V8 in 2015-2017 and the 3V in 2017).
