GENESEO, N.Y.—SUNY Geneseo scored twice in the first eight minutes on the way to a 4-1 victory over William Smith College in a non-conference field hockey match tonight. The Knights improved to 2-1 while the Herons slipped to 0-2.
Geneseo's Erin Nolan netted both early strikes, batting home her own rebound just over two minutes into the match. About five minutes later, Nolan one-timed a shot inside the far post off a feed from Gabriella Clare for a 2-0 lead. Less than two minutes before halftime, Clare pounced on a rebound for her first goal of the season, giving the Knights a 3-0 lead at the half.
Shots were even at six apiece in the opening 35 minutes. Geneseo outshot William Smith 10-4 in the second half for a 16-10 edge in the match.
Grace Dempsey made it a 4-0 lead in the 44th minute, knocking home her own rebound. William Smith broke through the Knight's defense in the 53rd minute when senior
Fallon Adair scored her second goal of the season.

The Herons will play the middle game of a three-game road trip at Ursinus (0-2) on Saturday, Sept. 8 at noon.
