COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.—The Ursinus College field hockey team scored twice in each half on its way to a 4-0 win over William Smith College this afternoon. The win improves the Bears' record to 1-2, while the Herons slip to 0-3.
Ursinus outshot William Smith 17-6 in the match, including an 8-1 advantage in the first half. Erin Saybolt opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, Jamie Mayer doubled the home team's advantage. Gabriella Howell and Devon Carroll tacked on second half goals.
Goalkeeper Jules Singer made four saves to earn the shutout. Sophomore
Alexandra DeVito went the distance in goal for the Herons, matching her career-high with seven saves.
William Smith will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 11, wrapping up its three-game road trip at Nazareth (2-2). The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
