ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The Hobart College soccer team was edged by ninth-ranked Rochester 2-1 in non-conference action this evening. The Statesmen are now 1-1-1 on the year while the Yellowjackets improve to 3-0-0.

Neither team could find the scoresheet in the opening 45 minutes. Hobart had the game's first scoring opportunity in the first minute. Junior
Tristan Cornell Roberts fired a shot on goal that was turned aside by Patrick Conway.

Rochester had its opportunities in the first half but senior
Alec Kaminer was up to the task making five stops.

The Yellowjackets finally broke through in the 70th minute when Josh Cooley found the back of the net. He hit a right footed volley from 15 yards out past a diving Kaminer. Ryan Aspenleiter was credited with the assist. Aspenleiter made it 2-0 in the 84th minute with a goal of his own. He redirected a Bryce Ikeda crossing pass over the goal line.

In the 89th minute, Hobart broke the shutout bid when sophomore
Pete Critchlow pocketed his first goal of the season. He picked up a loose ball in the crease and fired it past Conway.

Kaminer played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart, making five saves. At the opposite end of the pitch, Conway made two saves in goal for Rochester.

The Yellowjackets finished the game with a 10-8 edge in shots, while the Statesmen earned a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Hobart will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 13, when it welcomes Potsdam to Cozzens Field. The non-league contest is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
