SARATOGA SRINGS, N.Y.-The 11th-ranked Hobart College ice hockey team was edged by Skidmore 3-2 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the Saratoga City Rink this evening. The Statesmen are now 12-6-0 overall on the season and 6-5-0 in conference play.

Hobart opened the scoring at the 5:18 mark of the first period when Maguyon pocketed his fifth goal of the season. Junior

Seventy-nine seconds later, the Thoroughbreds tied the game at one on Callahan Johnson's second goal of the season. He wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle past Connal. Mike Gelatt and Russell were credited with assists on the goal. Austin Rook's goal at the 15:38 mark of the first period gave Skidmore a 2-1 lead. Will Steele and Corey Morgan were credited with assists on the goal. Rook fired a slap shot from the point over Connal's glove for his fifth goal of the season.

Avery Steele gave the Thoroughbreds a 3-1 lead just passed the halfway point of the second period. He blasted a one-timer from the right faceoff circle into the back of the net. Brandon Borges and Russell collected assists on the goal.

Harrison made it a one goal game just under five minutes later. He picked up a loose puck in the slot and flipped it past Kasel for his sixth goal of the season. Senior

Harrison's goal swung the momentum in Hobart's favor but the Statesmen could not find the equalizer in the third period. Hobart had a 19-5 edge in shots on goal in the final 20 minutes. Zach Tyson broke into the offensive zone but his snap shot was turned aside. Hobart had one last opportunity in the final 25 seconds of regulation with the Thoroughbreds killing off a cross checking penalty. Sophomore

The Statesmen finished the game with a 42-18 edge in shots on goal. Both teams had a power-play goal in tonight's game. Hobart was 2-for-5 with the man advantage while Skidmore was 1-for-5 on the power play.

The teams will wrap up the season series tomorrow afternoon at The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
