ITHACA, N.Y.- The Hobart College soccer team was edged by eighth-ranked Ithaca 1-0 in a Liberty League contest on Camp Wood Field this afternoon. With the loss the Statesmen fall to 8-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Liberty League play.

Thomas Pierce scored the game's lone goal in the 63rd minute. He converted on a free kick from just outside of the box. The unassisted strike was his second goal of the season.

Ithaca (9-1-1, 2-0-0) had the first scoring opportunity of the game in the second minute. Jonathan Kyriakidis fired a shot on cage that was turned aside by
Brian Salazar. Hobart's best opportunity of the first half came in the 17th minute. Ithaca's Max Lichtenstein made a diving stop on junior
Pete Critchlow's shot. In the 25th minute, Lichtenstein had to make a pair of stops on shots from Critchlow and senior
Nate Cary.

The Statesmen opened the second half with an offensive push. Junior
August Martini had a shot from the top of the box. Critchlow picked up the rebound but his shot was smothered by Lichtenstein. In the 74th minute, Martini nearly netted the equalizer, but the shot was stopped by Lichtenstein.

Hobart finished the game with a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior
Brian Salazar played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves. At the opposite end of the pitch, Lichtenstein made seven saves in goal for Ithaca.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it travels to take on Clarkson. Th e game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
