GENEVA, N.Y.- The Hobart College soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Bard on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With their third straight win, the Statesmen are 12-4-1 overall, 5-2-1 in Liberty League play and have secured a spot in the Liberty League Tournament.
Hobart opened the scoring in the 11th minute on senior
Nate Cary's team leading sixth goal of the season. Cary collected a loose ball on the penalty spot and fired a shot over Logan Leppo into the back of the net. Senior
Jack Bizub's first collegiate goal gave Hobart a 2-0 lead. In the 33rd minute, he poked a bouncing ball across the goal line.
Jack Fell was credited with an assist on the goal.
Bard (1-13-2, 0-8-0) had its best scoring chance of the first half smothered by
Brian Salazar. Coe Trevorrow fired the rebound just over the right corner.
The Statesmen extended their lead to 3-0 just over four minutes into the second half. Senior
Kyle Patrick bent a shot from 23-yards out off a Bard defender and into the lower right corner of the cage. His second goal of the season was unassisted. First-year
Amad Miller rounded out the scoring in the 85th minute. Off a free kick from a step outside of the box, first-year
Lucas Montero fired a shot off the Bard wall. Montero collected his own rebound and tipped the ball to Miller, who bicycle kicked the ball into the back of the net. It was Miller's second goal of the season.
Hobart dominated the stat sheet this afternoon, finishing the game with a 25-7 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Hobart used all three of its goalies. Salazar started in goal and made three saves in 64 minutes of action.
Stephen Combs played the next 12 minutes and made one save.
Victor Roccki did not face a shot in the final 14 minutes. Leppo played all 90 minutes in goal for Bard and made two saves.
The Statesmen enter the final week of the regular season in second place in the Liberty League standings. Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it welcomes St. Lawrence to Cozzens Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
