NEWBURGH, N.Y.-The second-ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated Mount Saint Mary 6-0 in a non-conference contest on Kaplan Field this afternoon. With their ninth straight win, William Smith is now 13-1-1 on the season while the Knights fall to 7-9-1.

Katrine Berg led the way for William Smith with two goals and an assist. Junior
Julia Keogh and sophomore
Sarah Gray added a goal and an assist each.

Sheila McQuillen opened the scoring in the 12th minute with her fourth goal of the season. Keogh was credited with an assist on the goal. She dribbled the ball into the 18-yard box and slipped a through ball to McQuillen, who fired the ball into the right corner of the cage. Just over a minute later, Keogh added a goal of her own. She wired a shot from the left side of the box into the lower right corner of the cage. Keogh's second goal of the season was assisted by junior
Mariah Deschino. First-year
Seneca Blakely-Armitage notched her fourth goal of the season in the 34th minute. She redirected a centering pass from
Katrine Berg across the goal line. Berg notched her first goal of the game in the 42nd minute. She blasted a shot from 18 yards out off of the left goal post and into the net. Senior
Phoebe Wade was credited with an assist on the goal.

Berg extended William Smith's lead to 5-0 with her second goal of the game and third of the season. In the 67th minute, she collected a leading pass from Gray and chipped a shot over the Mount Saint Mary goalie and into the back of the net. Gray rounded out the scoring in the 79th minute. Her shot bounced off the goalie and the right goal post and trickled over the goal line. First-year

The Herons controlled the game right from the opening whistle outshooting the Knights 21-0 and earned a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Amanda Kesler started in goal and played 69 minutes. Sophomore
Justine Pearson played the final 21 minutes for William Smith. Cyan Scott made seven in 90 minutes between the pipes for Mount Saint Mary.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when it takes on St. Lawrence. The game in Canton, N.Y., is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
