PINE VALLEY, N.Y.-The fifth-ranked Hobart College hockey team scored twice in the second period and three times in the third as they defeated Elmira 5-2 in a non-conference contest at the Murray Athletic Center this evening.

Three different players finished the game with two points for the Statesmen (1-0-0). Sophomore
Dan Sliney scored twice and junior
Alec Robitaille and sophomore
PA Martineau each notched two assists. Sophomore
Joe Halstrom made 24 saves in 60 minutes of action between the pipes.

Nick Ford and Matthew Cuce scored for the Soaring Eagles (0-1-0). Chris Janzen made 36 saves in goal for Elmira.

Despite being outshot 13-4 in the first period, the Soaring Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to Ford's first goal of the season. Adam Eby won a puck battle along the boards and poked it ahead to Ford. Ford carried the puck into the offensive zone, weaving his way through traffic and wristed a shot over Halstrom's glove. Blake Coffey nearly tied the game 30 seconds later when he rang a shot off the goal post.

The Statesmen took the lead midway through the second period with two goals in a fifty second span. At the 8:51 mark, Junior
Phil Satin tied the game with a one-timer from the point. Senior
Lawson MacDougall and junior
Mark Benemerito were credited with assists on the goal. Sliney gave the Statesmen the lead on their next shot. He fired a shot from the slot past Janzen. Robitaille and Martineau were credited with assists on the goal.

Sliney added a second goal 5:06 into the third period off an odd man rush. Robitaille fired a shot wide that caromed to Sliney on the left post. Sliney backhanded the eventual game winner into the net. Martineau notched the secondary assist on the goal. Elmira made it a one goal game at the 14:09 mark of the third period. Cuce one-timed a pass from Spencer MacLean across the goal line. Christian Lloyd was also credited with an assist on the goal.

Just over two minutes later, sophomore
Aaron Maguyon notched a power-play goal to extend Hobart's lead to 4-2. Junior
Mitchell Spring and sophomore
Zach Tyson were credited with assists on the goal. First-year
Brenden Howell iced the game for the Statesmen with an empty net goal. Junior
Kyle Lynch was credited with an assist on the tally.

Hobart finished the game with a 41-26 edge in shots on goal. The Statesmen were 1-for-4 on the power play while Elmira was 0-for-3 with the extra attacker.

Hobart and Elmira will wrap-up the home-and-home series tomorrow evening at The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
