GENEVA, N.Y.-The William Smith College ice hockey team defeated Wilkes 4-1 in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this afternoon. With their fifth straight win, the Herons are now 5-0-0 overall this season and 2-0-0 in conference play.

Jules Kennedy factored into all four of William Smith's goals, finishing with a goal and three assists each. Junior
Julia Mings notched a game-high two goals in the victory. Junior
Olivia Williams made 15 saves in goal for the Herons.

Andrea DelVecchio scored for the Colonels (0-2-0, 0-2-0). Ally Jolly played all 60 minutes in goal and made 41 saves.

Just over four minutes into the first period, Kennedy opened the scoring with her third goal of the season. Jolly made the initial stop on Scibetta's shot from point blank range, but the puck popped up into the air and Kennedy knocked it across the goal line. First-year
Julianna Gong was credited with a secondary assist on the goal. Scibetta and Kennedy had chances to extend the lead late in the first period, but their shots were smothered by Jolly.

Scibetta gave William Smith a 2-0 lead at the 5:49 mark of the second period with her third goal of the season. Kennedy and first-year
Liza Diffley notched assists on the game-winning goal. Diffley kept the Herons' possession alive with a pinch at the point. She poked the puck along the boards to Kennedy. Kennedy left a drop pass for Scibetta in the left faceoff circle. Scibetta deked around a defender, and wristed a shot past Jolly's left leg pad. Wilkes ended the shutout bid at the 9:19 mark of the second period. DelVecchio broke up a play at her own blue line, raced the length of the rink and slid a backhand past Williams for her first collegiate goal.

William Smith regained a two-goal lead on Mings' first goal of the game. She fired a shot from the point into the upper right corner of the cage. Scibetta and Kennedy were credited with assists on the power-play goal.

Mings added her second goal of the game and third of season 26 seconds into the third period. She picked up a loose puck and one-timed a shot past Jolly. Scibetta and Kennedy notched assists on the goal. Kennedy nearly scored her second goal of the game at the 8:42 mark of the second period, but her shot from the right faceoff circle rang of the crossbar.

William Smith finished the game with a 45-16 advantage in shots on goal and were 2-for-7 on the power play. Wilkes was 0-for-6 with the extra skater.

The Herons will be back in action next Saturday, Nov. 16, when they head to Pine Valley, N.Y., to take on third-ranked Elmira. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday's game will begin a six-game road trip to round out 2019 for William Smith.
