GENEVA, N.Y.-The William Smith College hockey team cruised to a 5-1 victory over Salve Regina in a non-conference contest at The Cooler this afternoon. The Herons are now 2-0-0 after sweeping the Seahawks to open the season.

Julianna Gong led the way with a goal and an assist each. Sophomore
Amanda Aalto made 28 saves as she earned the third win of her career.

Caroline Prezioso scored for Salve Regina and Madison Jalbert made 44 saves in 60 minutes of action in goal.

First-year
Mia LaPlante opened the scoring at the 9:58 mark of the first period. She collected a pass from Mings in the slot and wristed a shot past Jalbert and into the back of the net. It was her second goal in as many games. Five minutes later, Gong gave William Smith a 2-0 lead with her first collegiate goal. Gong pounced on a rebound in the slot and flipped a shot over the goalie and across the goal line. Junior
Jules Kennedy and Scibetta were credited with an assist on the goal. Mings extended the lead to three goals with her first tally of the season. She wired a shot from the slot inside the right goal post. Junior
Alison Weiss and Gong were credited with assists on the power-play goal. The Herons dominated the first period, finishing with a 23-2 edge in shots on goal.

Emily Martino notched her first goal of the season just over six minutes into the second period. She collected a drop pass from first-year
Emma Brophy and blasted a one-timer past Jalbert. Scibetta put the game out of reach on a short-handed goal with six seconds remaining in the second period. She picked up her own rebound and tucked the loose puck over the goal line.

The Seahawks ended the shutout bid at the 11:25 mark of the third period. Prezioso fired a shot through traffic and past Aalto for her first goal of the season. Kimberly Dunn and Michaela Carrera were credited with assists on the power-play goal.

William Smith finished the game with a 49-29 advantage in shots on goal. The Herons were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Seahawks were 1-for-7.

William Smith will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 5, when it travels to take on Morrisville State. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
