BROCKPORT, N.Y—Sophomore forward
Olivia Parisi scored a career-high 24 points and collected a career-high 14 rebounds to power the William Smith College basketball team past the College at Brockport 82-63 this afternoon. The Herons (3-1) extended their winning streak to three games, while the Golden Eagles (3-2) dropped their second straight.
Parisi went 8-of-18 from the floor with a 3-pointer and shot 7-of-11 at the free throw line. Ten of her 14 rebounds came on the offensive glass. In fact, William Smith collected an impressive 31 caroms on the offensive end, the most by the Herons in at least eight years. William Smith outrebounded Brockport 58-42.
Joining Parisi in double digits was first-year guard
Isabella Mitrow and junior guard
Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou. Mitrow compiled 18 points, six rebounds and a game-high three steals. Dimitrakopoulou contributed 10 points, five boards and a game-high seven assists.
The teams played the first quarter to a draw, heading to the second tied at 15. The Golden Eagles had a 27-25 lead with just over four minutes left in the half when the Herons seized control of the contest. They closed the half on a 13-3 run that saw Parisi pump in nine points, including seven consecutive points to start the run.
William Smith went into the locker room with a 38-30 lead.
After Kylee Rosbrook made a pair of free throws early in the third quarter, Brockport trailed by just four, but the Herons countered with another big run. Over the next five minutes, William Smith outscored their host 14-6 to stretch their advantage to 57-45. Mitrow powered this surge with 11 points, including three of her four 3-pointers.
The Herons led 61-49 after three quarters. The Golden Eagles got narrowed the gap to 10 three times in the final frame, but William Smith closed out the contest on a 12-3 run.
The Herons will host the University of Rochester at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 in Bristol Gym.
