irTROY, N.Y. — The Hobart College soccer team defeated RIT this evening at ECAV Stadium, when senior
Nick Wigglesworth buried a shot in the fourth round of penalty kicks. The Statesmen are 13-4-2 overall this season and will advance to the championship match of the Liberty League tournament.
The game was tied 1-1 entering the penalty shootout, and the Statesmen did not miss a single shot. Junior

Brian Salazar stopped Jared Short's shot in the fifth round of penalty kicks to secure the Statesmen's win.
Hobart scored their lone goal in regulation off a throw-in. Junior
Kyle Walsh fired a throw-in halfway across the field, and connected with Mangold's head. Mangold, who was outside the 18, flicked the ball all the way towards the left goal post, and senior
Kyle Patrick was there to finish it with his right foot.
RIT tied the game when Brett Kaemmerien ripped a shot into the low right corner of the net off an assist from Mark-Vincent Sansone.
The Tigers almost scored five minutes into the game when Simon Garno placed a shot towards the right corner. Salazar leaped to make the save. Five minutes later, Salazar stopped another RIT shot when he punched a header from Jared Short out of the air. Fifteen minutes into the half, Mangold had a scoring chance. Mangold found himself in front of the net, but placed his shot high over the net. After Patrick's first goal, he had a chance to add another one shortly after. He went 1v1 with the goalkeeper Will Sokol, but missed just wide left of the net. Salazar stopped a shot from Garno to end the half.
In the second half, Mangold broke past the Tigers' defense and ripped a shot, but it was saved by Sokol. Garno tried to break the tie 15 minutes into the second half, but Salazar denied his shot.
Salazar continued to stop RIT's shots when he punched Karl McNulty's shot out of the air. The Tigers took three more shots in the overtime period that were off goal. Patrick almost ended the game when his shot went just wide of the right post. Hobart had another close chance in the second overtime period. Martini took a free kick, and his shot slid under the crossbar and bounced out of the net. Mangold tried to cash in on the rebound, but his shot went over the net.
With the game tied after two overtime periods, the winner was decided by a penalty shootout. RIT missed a shot in the first round of penalty kicks, with the Statesmen finding the back of the net in all four rounds.
Hobart led 15-13 in shots and 8-3 in corner kicks. Sokol made two saves and Salazar stopped six shots.
The Statesmen will face Clarkson for the league championship and its accompanying automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3:30 p.m.
