SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team rode a trio of double-doubles to a 68-66 victory at Skidmore College tonight. The Herons improved to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in the Liberty League, while the Thoroughbreds slipped to 2-5, 0-1.

Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou all enjoyed big games in the scoring column and on the glass. Parisi scored a team-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. DeVaney added 17 points and 10 boards. Dimitrakopoulou contributed 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. William Smith dominated the glass, outrebounding Skidmore 55-38.
The Thoroughbreds got a game-high 21 points from Jessica Santore, 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds from Kate McCarney and 10 points from Meg Wiley.
William Smith trailed by four at halftime, 33-29, but turned the tide in their favor with a big surge in the third quarter. The Herons trailed 35-29 after McCarney made a jumper to open the second half scoring. William Smith used a 17-5 run to turn that six-point deficit into a six-point lead. Senior

William Smith was clinging to a two-point advantage midway through the fourth quarter when DeVaney rattled off five straight points and Dimitrakopoulou made it a seven points in a row with a pair of free throws, stretching the Heron lead to 62-53. William Smith went 20-of-27 at the free throw line for the game.
Skidmore made one last push to try to regain the lead, scoring nine straight points to tie the game with about a minute left. Cantore started the run with a 3-pointer followed by a layup. Wiley's layup tied the game at 62, but the Herons reclaimed the lead on a DeVaney layup off an assist by Parisi, who had a team-high six helpers.
Dimitrakopoulou made two more free throws with 17 seconds left for a 66-62 lead. After the teams traded 1-for-2 efforts at the line to raise the score to 67-62, McCarney hit a 3-pointer to make it a one-point game with six seconds to go. Skidmore fouled Dimitrakopoulou, who made 1-of-2 to complete her 9-of-11 night at the line. The Thoroughbreds turned the ball over as time expired, failing to get off a shot to tie or take the lead.
William Smith will be back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, when the Herons continued league play at Bard (4-3, 0-1).
