CANTON, N.Y.—William Smith College used an 11-3 finishing run to push past St. Lawrence University 65-61 in Liberty League women's basketball action tonight. The Herons trailed by as many as eight in the second half, but rallied for their eighth win in their past 10 games.

Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou pulled down a team-high nine boards, helping the Herons to a 45-36 advantage on the glass.
St. Lawrence also had three players in double digits paced by Ava McCann's game-high 15 points. Katie Frederick posted a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds while Dylan Watkiss chipped in 11 points.
With about three and a half minutes to go in the game, the Saints' Erin Kumler made a 3-pointer to put the home team up 58-54. Dooley made a layup to start the Heron comeback. At the other end of the floor junior
Emma Gallagher blocked an SLU shot, leading to a layup for Morrison and a tie game. The Saints got two looks at the basket to try to reclaim the lead, but the first was off the mark and Gallagher blocked the second and Dimitrakopoulou grabbed the rebounds. Back on offense, Hughes splashed a huge 3-pointer to give William Smith a 61-58 lead with a little over a minute to go.
After a nearly minute long scoring drought for both teams, St. Lawrence was finally forced to foul the Herons. Morrison made both freebies to make it a two-possession game and Dimitrakopoulou closed out the scoring 11 seconds later with two more from the free throw line.
The game was tied at 12 at the end of the first quarter and William Smith carried a slim 36-35 lead into halftime. Gallagher had the hot hand in the first half, scoring all nine of her points from beyond the 3-point arc.
The third quarter saw St. Lawrence (7-12, 4-8) take it largest lead of the game, 49-41, midway through the frame. McCann hit consecutive triples and Annabelle Pugliese capped the run with another triple. William Smith scored the final four points of the quarter to trim SLU's lead to four, setting the stage for the Herons' late rally.
William Smith (12-7, 8-5) is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2, visiting Clarkson (6-12, 3-8). Tipoff in Potsdam is set for 2 p.m.
