Dougherty moves up to #4 on career scoring list

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—Hobart College senior Colin Dougherty moved up three places to No. 4 on the Statesmen career scoring list with 27 points tonight. However, Vassar College outlasted Hobart 104-101 in double overtime in Liberty League men's basketball action.
 
Dougherty raised his career total to 1,650 points, passing Eric Nelson '98 (1,636), Stefan Thompson '13 (1,643), and Rob Pisanelli '00 (1,647). Dougherty was 10-of-22 from the floor with four 3-pointers. He also had a team-high four assists and a game-high four steals.
 
Junior Tucker Lescoe shared team-high honors with 27 points 9-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. He became the second player in Hobart history to make 200 career 3-pointers, raising his total to 203.
 
Senior Jamal Lucas finished with 21 points.
 
The Brewers' Paul Grinde led all scorers with 29 points. He also handed out a game-high seven assists. Alex Seff scored 20 points, including a 10-of-11 effort at the free throw line.
 
Vassar (11-13, 7-10) shot 67 percent from the floor and 80 percent at the free throw line in the second overtime to pull out the win. The Brewers took control of the game with six straight points. Seff started the run with a traditional 3-point play followed by a 3-pointer from Lance Tebay.
 
In the first overtime, Lescoe nailed a 3-pointer to put Hobart (14-10, 11-6) in front 86-85 with about 30 seconds left. Grinde's layup at the 15-second mark gave the home team a 1-point edge. Vassar fouled Colin Dougherty with three seconds left. He missed his first free throw, but made the second to tie the game.
 
Hobart trailed by as many as eight in the second half, but rallied to force overtime. At the end of regulation, Vassar held a 74-72 lead entering the final minute, but the Brewers fouled Edens Fleurizard. The junior made both shots to tie the game with 38 seconds to go. The Brewers missed two shots in the waning seconds necessitating OT.
 
Fleurizard scored 11 points.
 
The Statesmen held the biggest lead of the game, taking a 23-14 lead on a 3-pointer by Dougherty about eight minutes into the game.
 
Hobart will wrap up the regular season at Union (10-13, 6-11) on Saturday, Feb. 16. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
