VICTOR, N.Y.—Sophomore
Eric Holden scored seven goals and added two assists to lead the Hobart College lacrosse team to a 21-12 win over Canisius College at Pinnacle Athletic Campus tonight. It's the most goals scored by a Division I Statesman and the most by any Statesman since 1986.
Holden's big day got started when he fired home the game's opening goal off an assist from first-year
Jason Knox. After the Golden Griffins tied the game a minute later, Holden scored again and then set up a goal by senior
Chris Aslanian. Hobart led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.
The teams traded goals early in the second quarter, but the Statesmen seized control of the game with six straight goals on the way to an 11-5 halftime lead. Holden and Aslanian each scored twice during the run.
Aslanian finished the game with five goals and two assists. His big day moved him up Hobart's Division I career scoring charts. Aslanian now has 78 goals and 62 assists for 140 points. He moved into eighth place in goals, passing Mike Conklin '06 and Chris David '07. Aslanian passed Chris Pedersen '12 for fifth place in assists and vaulted from seventh to fourth in points, eclipsing Cam Stone '14, John Bogosian '03, and Jamie Breslin '01.
Like the second quarter, Hobart outscored Canisius 7-3 in the third quarter, pushing its lead to 18-8. The Statesmen dominated at the faceoff X in the second and third quarters, winning 17-of-22 restarts.
Senior
Matthew Pedicine won 22 of the 32 faceoffs he took on the night and scooped up a game-high 15 ground balls.
Twenty-nine seconds into the fourth quarter, Holden broke Hobart's DI goal scoring mark, burying his seventh for a 19-8 lead. His nine-point game is the most by a Statesman since Aslanian's 13-point game against Wagner in 2017.
Sophomore
Ryan Archer contributed five points on two goals and three assists. Eight other Statesmen recorded at least one point.
Hobart's 21 goals are one shy of the program's DI standard, scored against Canisius in 2006.
Hobart goalkeepers sophomore
CJ White and junior
Sam Lucchesi split time in goal. Each backstop recorded five saves.
Three Griffs, Cater Stefaniak, Jacob Buck and Mathi Boissoneault, finished with three points. Canisius goalie Brad Nordstrom made 15 saves.
The Statesmen will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Siena.
