Beavers top Statesmen 9-0

Pasadena, Calif.— The Hobart College tennis team fell to Caltech 9-0 in a non-conference match. With the loss, the Statesmen are now 3-2.
 
Hobart was ranked 36th and Caltech was ranked 29th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Team rankings.
 
Hobart was down 3-0 at the conclusion of doubles play. Junior Alan Dubrovsky and sophomore Walker Anderson fell to Varun Shanker and James Wei 8-2 in the No. 1 spot. Junior Colin Molloy and first-year Jack Ledford lost to Matthew Gonzalgo and Kevin Yu 8-1 in the No. 3 spot. Senior Jonathan Atwater and first-year Thomas Shung closed out doubles falling to Patryk Kozlowski and Connor Soohoo 8-3 in the No. 2 spot.
 
In singles play, Derik Nguyen clinched the match for Caltech defeating Molloy 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot. Dubrovsky lost 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. Ledford lost to Yu 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 4 spot. Shung fell 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 5 spot. Anderson lost 7-5, 6-0 to Gonzalgo in the No. 3 spot. Atwater rallied at the end of singles play and forced a third set against Wei. Atwater fell 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-7 in the No. 2 spot.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, March 18th when they take on Chapman University in Orange, California at 4 p.m.
