Orlando, Fla. — The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by New Paltz 5-4 at Sanlando Park this afternoon. With the loss, the Herons are 1-2 on the year while the Hawks are 10-0.
New Paltz took a 2-1 lead at the end of doubles play. Trinity Chow and Laura Koob won 8-2 in the No. 1 spot while Victoria Zezula and Lindsay Haley won 8-6 at No. 2. Sophomores
Charlotte Engebrecht and
Katelyn Nguyen topped Courtney Koran and Emma Messanger 8-5 in the No. 3 spot. Engebrecht and Nguyen are now 4-1 while playing together.
The Hawks clinched the match in singles play. Chow tallied a point for the Hawks at the No.1 spot over junior
Allie Perron 7-6, 7-6. First-year
Maggie Bonomo logged a win 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. Bonomo is 8-3 overall this season. Foley bested Zezula 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. Sophomore
Dina Rigas lost to Jenna Grandville 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 in the No. 4 spot. Engebrecht fell to Koran 2-6, 4-6 in the No. 5 spot. Junior
Leland Barclay tallied a win in the No. 6 spot 0-6, 6-0, 6-0 over Lindsay Haley.
The Herons will be back in action on Thursday, March 21
st when they play George Fox University at 9:30 a.m. in Orlando Florida.
