ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The William Smith College tennis team defeated the University of Rochester 5-4 this afternoon in the Goergen Athletic Center. The Herons are now 5-2 overall and have four straight wins.
The Herons led 2-1 after doubles play. First-year
Maggie Bonomo and sophomore
Dina Rigas fell to Camila Garcia and Cami Ruiz Vega 8-4. Sophomores
Katelyn Nguyen and
Charlotte Engebrecht bested Yaya Wang and Rina Chen 8-7 at No. 3. Nguyen and Engebrecht have won seven consecutive matches in the No. 3 spot this season. Juniors
Allie Perron and
Kate Foley notched a win at No. 2 over Abbey Reinhart and Olivia Waysack 8-7.
Senior
Alex Greenberg clinched the match for the Herons at No. 5 besting Chen 6-1, 6-4. Junior
Leland Barclay fell to Wang 2-6, 4-6 at No. 4. Bonomo bested Reinhart 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. Perron fell to Garcia 2-6, 6-7, (5-7) in the No. 1 spot. Rigas fell to Ruiz Vega 2-6, 6-4 3-6, at No. 3. Nguyen notched a win at No. 6 besting Waysack 6-1, 6-0.
William Smith will be back in action Saturday, March 30 when they play their first of five consecutive Liberty League matches at Skidmore College. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
