Statesmen fall to Spartans 7-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Hobart College tennis team fell to Case Western Reserve University 7-2 this afternoon at a neutral site match. The Statesmen will drop to 6-3 overall this season.
 
In the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Northeast Regional Rankings, The Statesmen are 13th and 36th nationally. Case Western Reserve is fifth in the Central Region and 14th nationally.
 
The Spartans had a 3-0 lead after doubles play.  First-year Jack Ledford and junior Colin Molloy lost in the No. 3 spot 8-2 to Aaron Umen and Chaitanya Aduru. First-year Thomas Shung and senior Jonathan Atwater fell to Zach Hennessey and Matthew Chen in the No. 2 spot 8-3. Junior Alan Dubrovsky and sophomore Walker Anderson fell at No. 1 to Jonathan Powell and Anthony Kanam 8-7 (7-1).
 
Umen clinched the match for the Spartans in singles play besting Atwater 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) in the No. 2 spot. Ledford fell to Sam Concannon 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4. Dubrovsky tallied a win at No. 1 over Chen 6-1, 7-6 (7-0). Anderson notched a win at No. 3 over Kanam 7-6 (9-7), 6-2. Shung fell to Aduru 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5. Molloy fell at No. 6 to Max Vicario 6-3, 6-4.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action next Saturday, April 6, when they travel to Union College for a Liberty League contest. The match is set to begin at noon.
